Welcome to John Dick and Son

Here at fatBuzz we are delighted to be working with John Dick & Son, interior designers and retailers of fine quality furniture. We have already launched their Facebook Page, Twitter account and blog and as part of that exercise we got the guys at John Dick & Son to tell us a bit about themselves on this short video. It's the first time they've tried anything like this, take a look at the result here:

A timely breakfast for me...

Many of you will know that fatBuzz are moving office very soon, that's why the next New Media Breakfast on Cloud Computing is a very timely one for fatBuzz and me in particular.

We already use Cloud Computing to share files with clients or, to access when we're out visiting clients. And, when we move to the new office I will make much greater use of Cloud Computing because I tend to do a lot of my client work in the evening so, I'm not entirely unfamiliar with the concept.

I am looking forward to is finding out where Cloud Computing is going in the future in terms of licensing software and accessing it online instead of having it installed on your computer.  I am also keen to find out how secure your data is when it's stored in the cloud and what measures can be taken to guard your content.

Cloud computing will enable the workforce to be more disparate in the future however, I fear that connectivity in Scotland will play a big part in the success or failure of Cloud Computing, I look forward to what Tommy Mitchell has to say about that.

If you have any questions you would like to ask Tommy at the New Media Breakfast please email them to me and we will make sure they are included in the Q&A session.  You can also submit them to our Facebook Page or on Twitter.

If you haven't booked for the breakfast you can do it here:

No.29 Members Go Free – If you are a 29 Member you can attend the breakfast free of charge. Please email malcolm@fatbuzz.com with you membership number and he will add you to the attendance list.
We hope you can make it along to this event. If so, I look forward to seeing you on the day.

New Facebook Pages - What are the changes?

Some interesting changes to Facebook Pages have just been introduced today and, they're much as we predicted in our Social Media Podcast No.29 recorded back on 21st December last year.  Here are some of the main changes:

Switching Accounts
You can now use Facebook as a Page or as a personal profile so, you now have the option to post to your Page using your personal profile rather than as the Page Admin.

Notifications
This is one that will please most people.  You can now get email notifications when people post or comment on your Page so, now no need to constantly check for activity, you will be notified (optional).

News Feed
There is now a news Feed on your Page.

Tabs
The tabs are now down the left hand column.  Along the top of the page there is now a feed from your photos.

Liking
Pages can now "Like" and post on other Pages.

Sizes
It looks like .fbml pages are now reducing from 520px wide to around 492 - 493px wide.  This will mean anyone using splash pages and welcome pages will need to resize their images otherwise the right hand side will cut off.  if you are a fatBuzz client, we will do this for you but, it may take a day or two because we have so many to change over.
Update 11.15am on 11th February: Thank you to Stephen K Knight (@FanPageGuru) who sent me a message on Twitter, apparently the width issue may be a bug in the Facebook coding and the width will be 520px as it was before so, please don't amend your .fbml page widths just yet)

Full Rollout
The Pages can be switched over to the new layout now however, the full automatic switch to the new Pages will take place on 10th March.

We will be exploring all of the changes in more detail over the next few days and we will let clients know if anything affects them or, what new opportunities are available to you as a result of the changes.

If you have any questions about the changes please ask in the comments box below or, email me at gordon@fatbuzz.com

Social Media Podcast 31 - Phoenix head to NADA San Francisco and, the usual social media chat

In No.31 (not 32 as introduced at the start of the podcast) enjoy the usual banter with Gordon White, Kyle Murdoch (fatBuzz) and Iain Murray.  eventually we are joined by Russell Smith, Sale and Marketing Director at Phoenix Car Group.  We look at recent news and events around the world of social media and give a brief round-up of the New Media Breakfast about sharing content.  A special thanks to Mitch Joel for his contribution to that event.

We then move on to discuss a range of topics including, Facebook Sponsored Adverts, CNN's iReport, DropBox iPad App, Prezi iPad App, the Dodo Case for the iPad, Citizen Journalism and much more.

Russell Smith then joins us to talk about the 15 strong team from Phoenix Car Company going to the annual NADA convention in San Francisco to learn more about customer service.  He explains how the attendees staked their claim to a place on the trip via social media and, how they will be sending regular reports back from the convention via social media. We also suggested to Russell that Sallie Goetsch (Social Media Podcast No.24) might be able to help those who are new to blogging if they experience any difficulties whilst in San Francisco!!!
